Great post. So much to chew on with this post.
My first thought is that I hope we don't live longer. Although science is helping expand our lives, there are still so many diseases cutting lives short that are a mystery - like MS. The thought of living longer lives that are perhaps less fulfilling does nothing for me, I hope if I had the choice to live longer without the quality, that I would choose to die and appreciate the quality of the life I did have.
Otherwise, hmmm.. I never thought of death as a means to life. I did recently pick up a book called 90 Minutes in Heaven written by a guy who was declared dead at the scene of a car accident but miraculously came to life in 9o minutes. It's a great book - talks about his experiences in heaven. While I'm not a religious type to martyr myself in the hopes of a higher heaven, I do find it wonderfully comforting to hear heaven is such an exciting place.

I think the baby boomers have just missed the real...

I think the baby boomers have just missed the really long life extension cycle. Probably it's our generation (gen X, if you will, lame though that moniker is) that will start to see the big increases, and the NEXT generation is where it goes through the roof.

I agree it's interesting to consider what post-adulthood looks like. Lots of people aren't ready to think about it. Some science fiction stories talk about taking space trips for years off into nowhere, just to be by yourself for a few decades, so you can handle coming back into civilization for another century....

Two thoughts came up for me here:

Since yo...

Two thoughts came up for me here:

Since you are speaking of life-extension rather than everlasting life, the reality of death and the religious concepts that are there to explain it will likely remain more or less as-is.

Isn't it interesting to try to imagine what the next phase of life, the one that very few people have actually lived, will bring? Currently, the general path seems to be something like birth-childhood-teen-*new!* extended adolescence-career/family building-community connection-retirement woo hoo-etc. But in the future, what would happen after retirement woo hoo? What becomes important to a person after they've discovered who they are and their place in society, they've grown and nurtured new humans and/or achieved their first-level dream building goals, they've let off steam from all the years of building so much? What's next? A new building phase? It seems to me that people would naturally build and release in cycles over time, but what do I know? I'm only 35. According to you, I've just hatched. ;-) That's a fun idea.

Anyway, I think that the Baby Boomers are going to help us answer some of these questions. Such a large and impactful generation -- they never seem to go through any of life's phases quietly.
